D23 Update: EPCOT Enhancements

Six months ago at a Destination D event, officials announced that EPCOT would be receiving an overhaul. Yesterday we were let in on several more details surrounding the re-theming. First we received confirmation that Ratatouille will be making its way to the France Pavilion in World Showcase. This will be similar to the attraction at Walt Disney Studios Paris called “Ratatouille: The Adventure” which is the highest rated attraction at that theme park. Additionally, we might be seeing the same trackless ride vehicles coming to EPCOT that we see in Paris. The France pavilion will be expanded in order to fit this new experience.

In Future World the rumor of Guardians of the Galaxy taking over Ellen’s Energy Adventure in the Energy Pavilion was also confirmed. Peter Quill and the gang will be making their way to central Florida in a new attraction. No further details have been announced regarding it but suffice to say it will be a huge e-ticket attraction.

Both Ratatouille and Guardians of the Galaxy will be debuting for the 50th anniversary in 2021.

Future World will also be getting a facelift of its own. New artist renderings were revealed but no other announcements were made regarding it. From the looks of the drawings innovations east and west do not appear to be there. No telling if this facelift will also bring other new attractions to EPCOT in addition to the two mentioned at D23. But we do know that the EPCOT re-imagining and/or expansion will most likely be a multi-phase process.

Lastly in EPCOT a new restaurant will open next to Mission: SPACE. Keeping in the galactic motif guests will partake in a unique dinging experience where windows will open to space itself. Think dining at The Coral Reef but replace the starfish for actual stars. This new restaurant will be operated by the Patina Restaurant Group which currently operates such Disney World fan favorites like Tutto Italia and Via Napoli in EPCOT’s Italian Pavilion and Morimoto Asia in Disney Springs. Stay tuned for more info on opening dates and cuisine offerings.
