D23 Updates: Resorts and Transportation

D23 Resorts and Transportation enhancements were among some of the biggest announcements made the entire weekend.

Three announcements were made in terms of Disney resorts. Disney’s Hotel New York in Disneyland Paris will receive a new Marvel reimagining. With a focus on the great art from the film and comic franchises, Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel will bring the action of Marvel to hotel guests.

Back on this side of the Atlantic Walt Disney World received two huge resort announcements. The first being the announcement of the 15th Disney Vacation Club resort. Rumors leading up to the event had lead some to believe that a section of Disney’s Caribbean Beach resort would become DVC villas. This would have brought a DVC location to a moderate for the first time. What actually will occur is that a stand alone resort will take the place in a plot of land that was cleared next to Caribbean Beach. The Disney Riviera Resort will have approximately 300 units of varying sizes and will provide excellent views of both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios nighttime entertainment.

And perhaps the biggest news from all of D23 was the announcement of a Star Wars hotel coming to Disney World. A resort completely themed around the iconic film franchise that has Disney leaders describing it as a “multi-day fully immersive experience”. The design of the hotel is much like a being on a starship full of its own unique characters that you will be able to interact with.

This is the first in what is being called the “Disney 360” vacation experience. This experience is something that has never been done before and will be a thrill to experience. According to Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resort, “the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.” Guests will dress in unique apparel that will help define their story and their interactions with others will help create their own individual experiences.

Speculation is already making its way through the internet regarding this new hotel. Many think that it will be built directly behind Hollywood Studios as there is a large piece of land already under development there. This would also make sense as that area can lead immediately into Galaxy’s Edge. So their is potential to carry your Star Wars story with you from this resort into the theme park itself.

Stay tuned for future information on openings as well.

We also received some big Disney transportation news at D23. Firstly Disney will be starting its own point-to-point car service. Called “Minnie Vans” these SUVs themed to Minnie Mouse will pick you and your party up from any where in Disney World and for a $20 flat fee transport you to any other place in Disney World. Much like other car sharing services you will most likely use an app to request a pick up. This service should begin in the next few months.

What is sure to be a huge infrastructure project, Disney announced the addition of the Disney Skyliner. Modern day gondolas will give you a Bird’s Eye View of Disney property. Stops will will include Disney’s Art of Animation, Pop Century and Caribbean Beach, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at EPCOT. With Caribbean Beach in there it is also safe to say that the Disney Riviera Resort will also be included in the stops. This will bring a new transportation method to many guests staying at these very popular resorts. Dates have not been announced on when this new transportation might open but we can confirm that construction has already begun. Walls are currently up in what we believe to be the exact location of the World Showcase stop.

How about all that? Some pretty big resort and transportation announcements at D23. So what are you most excited for? Let us know your Disney Opinion.
