What We’re Excited for in 2018 at Disney World

2017 was a great year to be a Disney fan. We welcomed in great new experiences, places to eat and new things to do. But, some of the biggest Disney moments of 2017 were announcements of future projects that will soon be coming to the world. While it’s great to reflect upon the past at times let’s look toward the future and see what we’re excited for in 2018 at Disney World.

Toy Story Land

In 2018 I’m excited to be shrunk down to the size of a toy. The newest land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be opening sometime this Summer and with it we will get a new area to explore with two new attractions as well as a counter service restaurant. While the Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers don’t seem like revolutionary new attractions, I’m still excited to see them come to life. Plus, the addition of a new land will be a much needed boost to Hollywood Studios which has been in a renovation period for a number of years now.

Continued Expansion at Disney Springs

Disney Springs is already a destination unto itself. You can easily spend a full day there experiencing the shopping, dining and entertainment it has to offer. And 2018 will continue to bring new experiences to it. New dining like Jaleo, Wine Bar George, Terralina Crafted Italian and Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill will be coming while places like Maria and Enzo’s Ristorante, Pizza Ponte, Enzo’s Hideaway Bar and The Edison have already opened or should be opening in the first few weeks of the New Year. I for one can’t wait to try these new additions to Disney Springs.

Animal Kingdom Anniversary and New “Flights of Wonder” Show

Everyone loves a good anniversary, especially the folks at Disney and this Earth Day be prepared to celebrate as Disney’s Animal Kingdom turns 20. In the last few years Animal Kingdom has wiped away the connotations of being a half day park and has emerged as an epic nighttime park as well. New experiences will continue to come including the reimagining of “Flights of Wonder” which gave it’s final bow on December 31st, 2017. The new show will feature Russell and Dug from the Disney Pixar film Up, as they learn about birds and their natural habitats. As a big fan of Up and of the original Flights of Wonder show I am very excited to see this new story come to life. The show is anticipated to open on Earth Day in conjunction with the 20th anniversary.

Mickey’s Birthday

This year the big cheese will be celebrating his 90th birthday in September. Disney has already announced a D23 event dedicated solely to Mickey in celebration of his birthday but don’t be surprised if we get a bigger celebration as well. At the D23 Mickey event we should also hope to see progress on the Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction in Hollywood Studios.

More Announcements

As rabid Disney fans we know we always want more. And while we got some gigantic announcements in 2017 we should anticipate even more announcements coming in 2018. The long rumored EPCOT transformation may get started, and I don’t just mean Guardians of the Galaxy, Ratatouille and the new Space themed restaurant but there might be a complete overhaul of the park itself. We might hear more expansions for Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and even maybe a Tomorrowland reimagination in the Magic Kingdom. Speaking of Magic Kingdom look to 2018 to see more discussion surrounding the Main Street Theater, when it will open and what show(s) will be going in there.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg for what Walt Disney World has in store for us in 2018. Whatever the new experience or new announcements might turn out to be what I am most excited about is just the ability to spend another year with Disney in my life. New experiences will always continue to be developed, and old experiences will, for better or worse, be replaced with new ones. But the one constant is that Disney, and for me especially, Disney World will remain. 2017 was a heck of a year for the place where dreams come true but I have a feeling that 2018 will be even better!

What excites you as a Disney fan in 2018?
