Why this is the Summer to Go to Disney World

*This post has been updated for 2019.

It’s a safe bet that anytime schools are out on breaks in America, Disney World is going to be busy. And Summer break always brings plenty of guests. With crowds and the heat, Summer is always a time I think you should try to avoid. While there are no longer offseasons anymore there are plenty of more suitable times throughout the year where the weather and crowds will be more ideal.

Now for some, going anytime other than Summer just simply isn’t an option and that’s ok! With the right planning, you’ll still have an awesome trip. We recently discussed on an episode of the WDW Opinion Podcast why this Summer might be the best Summer to go to Disney World. Here are some additional thoughts on that.

It’s Only Going to Get Busier

While we’ve gotten some big openings lately even bigger things are coming to Walt Disney World. Disney loves a good anniversary and come 2021 they will have something big to celebrate. The 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World is sure to be something huge. Maybe not Castle Birthday Cake huge (just joking!) but, plenty is in the works.

We already know what’s coming like: Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, Guardians of the Galaxy and Ratatouille attractions, a revamp of Future World at EPCOT, the TRON coaster, the Star Wars hotel, expansions at Coronado Springs and the opening of the Riviera Resort. Plus Epcot will be undergoing a change with its entrance and some of its Future World pavilions, among other things. All of this will hopefully be done by the 50th anniversary, or we can at least speculate that it will be.

When people planning their trips see these things coming they might think, “why don’t we just wait a few more years until everything is open”. But with each new addition more and more people will start coming. If you thought hour long waits just to get into the land of Pandora were long, then you can only imagine what’s going to happen in Fall of 2019 when Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opens.

I’m not saying this Summer is going to be slow. It will definitely still be busy but we can only assume that anytime after that will only get busier and busier.

New additions like Toy Story Land are already in place.

New Additions Already in Place

With some many new things coming it’s easy to forget that we already have so much. Pandora the World of Avatar will celebrate its two year anniversary this Summer. Coupled with the new nighttime entertainment, Animal Kingdom has gotten a new life and a great place to explore for those who haven’t been in a while.

Let’s also not forget about Disney Springs. New additions are still being built but the majority of the project is done. There’s plenty of awesome new shops and dining to partake in. It’s a can’t miss on your next Disney trip.

Plus this the addition of Toy Story Land to Hollywood Studios has given us two new attractions to a park that desperately needs them. Crowds will surely still be busy here but this new land is bringing more fun to that park.

So if you’re planning a Summer trip consider this year to do so. There’s plenty of new experiences to take part in and while it won’t be the slowest time of the year, the crowds are only going to get bigger with each new addition added to the resort. Summer has seen low periods in recent years when compared to years past. We can only assume that this Summer will be the final year of that.
